Top US Military Officials Visit HQs of Somali Coast Guard in Mogadishu
On Friday, top military officials from the United States visited the headquarters of the Somali Coast Guard in Mogadishu.
The visit of U.S. military officials to the Somali Police Force Coast Guard unit headquarters in Mogadishu highlights ongoing efforts to bolster maritime security in Somalia.
The Commandant of the Somali Maritime Police, Colonel Bashir Abdi Kassim said “The collaboration focuses on enhancing Somali-led maritime capacity-building programs to tackle various challenges at sea, including drug trafficking, terrorism, and illegal fishing”
He added that the Somali Coast Guard plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order in Somali waters, and this engagement reinforces the U.S. commitment to supporting Somalia’s security infrastructure.
Through this partnership, Somalia aims to increase its self-reliance in managing maritime security and protecting its territorial waters from illegal activities.
